Style Stencilling
Cut out your favourite funky shapes from old cereal boxes like stars, hearts or even squiggles if that suits your fancy. Mix it up a little by cutting out different sizes, and then use your shapes as stencils on the paper and fabric of your choice.

Create your own wrapping paper in 6 easy steps:

  • Step 1
    You will need:
    • an old cereal box
    • paper plate
    • sponge
    • scissors
    • paper
    • different coloured paints

  • Step 2
    Open the cereal box and draw outlines around your shapes on the inside of the box.

    Cut out your shapes.
    Remember you can use the shape and the outer block as stencils. Keep the shapes for later.

    Place some paint on the paper plate.
    Then dab your sponge into the paint and use your stencil to create shapes.

    Create as many shapes as your heart desires!

    Let the paint dry for a few minutes.

    Final result: You can use your new patterned paper as wrapping paper for a present or to cover your books. Get creative with old ribbon and cards!

Astro Mobile
Save (and carefully wash) the tinfoil sheets from your school lunches and create out-of-this-world stars, planets, a sun and moon. Get cleverly creative by colouring in the different planets. Then punch a hole in each piece, tie them onto a string, attach a pie pan (use as a base) and hang each mobile from the ceiling.

Create your own astro mobile in 6 easy steps:

  • Step 1
    You will need:
    • an old coat hanger
    • coloured paper
    • string
    • scissors
    • tinfoil
    • cardboard
    • sellotape
    • punch

    Draw the shapes you'd like to use on your cardboard.

    Cut out your shapes. Remember you can use the shapes
    and the outer blocks as stencils. Keep the shapes for later.

    Tie the string to your shapes and then onto your coat hanger. Final result: You can decorate your coat hanger with feathers, or anything else your heart desires, to create an amazing mobile. Go on, surprise yourself!

    Tips:
  1. Get your mobile to match the theme or colour scheme of your room by recreating the same patterns and tones.
  2. You can create all kinds of shapes—just make sure your mobile balances out.
  3. Mobiles can make great gifts—ask the birthday girl or boy what their favourite shapes and colours are and create a present just for them.

Lunar Lantern
What you'll need:
  • Oats box
  • Scissors or a blade (NT cutter)
  • A small glass jar, tea light candle and Prestik®
  • Paper, magazine pages or wrapping paper
  • A pen, glue and paperclips
  • Stars, glitter and foil for the decorations

Make your frame
Remove the top of the oats box.
Cut out 2 windows on opposite ends of the box about 1.5 cm from the edge.

Cut out 2 pieces of paper from magazines or old wrapping paper (these will be stuck on the inside of the box later, covering the windows you just cut out, so make sure they are slightly bigger than these holes).
Fold each sheet 3 times.
Cut out star shapes as shown in the below drawings, then unfold your galaxy sheet.

Decorations
Punch holes in the oats box on the two plain sides of your box using a pen.
Stick the galaxy sheets on the inside of the box windows.
Decorate the lantern with glitter, foil balls, stars, etc.

Light up
Slide a glass jar into your box, then a tea light candle inside the jar (use Prestik® to stick it down firmly in the glass jar).
Light up the candle carefully and … WOW, check out the cool colours!

WARNING!
Make sure an adult is present when you’re following the cutting steps and lighting the candle. Always keep an eye on your candle and keep it away from flammable materials like spray cans.
